What tax relief can I get?

  • There is the possibility of deferral of income, corporate and sales tax without interest as well as the reduction of tax prepayments / the trade tax assessment (application form).
  •  There is also the possibility of deferral of the trade tax without interest and the reduction of the advance payment (application form).

Where and how do I apply for tax assistance?

  • The deferral of income, corporate and sales tax as well as the reduction of tax prepayments / the trade tax assessment must be applied for at the responsible tax office or via ELSTER.
  • The deferral of trade tax and the reduction of the advance payment must be applied for at the Treasury and Tax Office of the City of Frankfurt.
  • It is advisable to contact your tax advisor in advance.

Liquidity support

Am I entitled to defer payment of social security contributions?

  • Under specific conditions, it is possible that the statutory health insurances temporarily defer contributions to social security.
  • The deferral of social security contributions is a supplement to the comprehensive support for companies and the self-employed, which is currently being decided by the Federal Government, the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. In principle, the contributions can only be deferred if all other measures from the various aid packages and support measures of the Federal Government have been exhausted.
  • Please inform yourself at the health insurance association (press release, background and FAQ) and / or your health insurance companies about the possibilities of deferral or payment in installments of your contributions.

FAQs of the Immigration Office during restricted public traffic as a measure in connection with the Corona virus (as of 04 May 2020)

I have an appointment with the immigration office starting from 04 May 2020. Can I come to this appointment?

If the appointment is on or later than 04 May 2020, the appointment takes place! The immigration office has reopened for appointments starting from 04 May 2020. (Please bring along proof of the appointment, e.g. email confirmation about the appointment). Please arrive at the entrance of the immigration office at Rebstöcker Straße 4, 60326 Frankfurt am Main 10 minutes before the start of your appointment. Furthermore, you are allowed to attend to the appointment, only if you have an appropriate cover over your mouth and nose.

I have an appointment with the immigration office, but I would like to have an earlier appointment. What can I do?

Due to the large number of urgent appointments, an earlier interview cannot be arranged.

My residence permit expires in next 4 weeks. I have yet got an appointment. What can I do?

  • After your submission, you will receive an appointment from the immigration office, which will be scheduled before the expiration of your residence permit.

I had an appointment when the immigration office was still closed.

  • After your submission, you will receive an appointment, which will be scheduled before the expiration of your residence permit. If your permit has already expired, you will receive a certificate for the extension of your temporary stay by post, so long as the prerequisite requirements are met.

My stay as a tourist is about to expire and I cannot leave Germany. What should I do?

  • According to this act and the conditions described, you are exempted from the requirement of a residence permit until 30 June 2020.
  • If you are a tourist staying in Frankfurt am Main without visa, a border crossing certificate can be issued after your visa-free period expires. For such case, please send the following data/ documents to 32.abh.uebertrag@stadt-frankfurt.de: a copy of your passport with your complete personal details, a copy of the entry stamp and your address in Frankfurt am Main, where you can be reached by post.
  • After checking the documents, you will receive a certificate from the immigration authorities for your further stay.

In this case, you are not required to have an appointment with the immigration office!

My electronic residence permit was processed by Bundesdruckerei. What can I do to receive my electronic residence permit?

  • If your electronic residence permit (eAT) is available for collection at the immigration office, you will receive the eAT with registered post. Until then, please be patient and refrain from further inquiries.
  • The eAT is available for collection at the Citizens‘ Registration Office. Under this circumstance, it cannot be picked up currently.
  • It is unclear when you can pick up your eAT at the Citizens’ Registration Office (please check the website of this office regularly).
  • If you are in an extremely difficult situation due to the non-possession of the eAT, you can send an e-mail with relevant evidence and your personal data to: 32.abh.eat-poststelle@stadt-frankfurt.de. Alternatively, you can also send your request by post or fax.
  • An example of an extremely difficult situation: for example: impending job loss (employer asks for a residence permit). Otherwise, we check each individual case depending on the urgency. An intended trip in next few weeks/ months (current possibility with restrictions) is not regarded as an extremely difficult situation. In this case, please be patient, until the eAT is sent to you by post or until you can speak to the citizens‘ office about the issue.

In this case, you are not required to approach to the immigration office!

If you are abroad while your residence permit expires:

  • If your residence permit expires during your stay abroad and it is not possible for you to be back to Germany in time, you can also apply for an extension of the residence permit by email. To fill in the application form, please visit the website and look for Aufenthaltstitel – Antrag auf Erteilung bzw. Verlängerung under DOWNLOADS: https://frankfurt.de/service-und-rathaus/verwaltung/aemter-und-institutionen/ordnungsamt/auslaenderbehoerde. Then you can send the completed application to the following e-mail address: 32.auslaenderbehoerde@stadt-frankfurt.de. In addition to the completed application, please also attach a copy of your passport with the last exit stamp and a copy of your residence permit in your e-mail. Alternatively, you can send your request by post or fax.
  • Since you need a probationary certificate from the immigration office for your re-entry to Germany, you are requested to provide the information of your residence abroad as well as your nearest German embassy/ consulate in the e-mail. After checking your documents, a probationary certificate will be sent to you via the official courier route of the Federal Foreign Office.

I have a new passport and would like to „transfer“ my residence permit.

Please make an appointment by e-mail. Please send an e-mail with your full name, your date of birth and your home address in Frankfurt as well as a copy of your new passport to the following address: 32.abh.uebertrag@stadt-frankfurt.de. Alternatively, you can send your request by post or fax.

I have lost my electronic residence permit.

  • Please send an email with your full name, your date of birth and your Frankfurt‘s home address as well as a copy of your passport to: 32.abh.uebertrag@stadt-frankfurt.de. Alternatively, you can send your request by post or fax.
  • If your electronic residence permit has been stolen, please also send me a copy of the police report.
  • After receiving the documents/ your email, you will receive an appointment from us.

Applications for permanent residence permits

Applications for permanent residence permits can only be processed as schedule (if your current residence permit is still valid). A request of earlier process cannot not be entertained at the moment.

Can I travel with a probationary certificate (Fiktionsbescheinigung)?

  • Travelling out of and re-entering Germany is only possible if your probationary certificate is in accordance with section 81 (4) of the Residence Act.
  • Most countries accept this certificate for a trip, however, prior clarification with the respective country is recommended.

I intend to change my employer and need corresponding permit abide by immigration law. What can I do?

  • Please submit a copy of the passport and the current residence permit (+ copy of the supplementary sheet for the residence permit) and a completed job description from your new employer to: 32.auslaenderbehoerde@stadt-frankfurt.de
  • If it is available, please also send us a copy of the new work contract.

In this case, you do not have to go to the immigration office!

My temporary residence permit expires soon. What can I do?

The immigration office will extend your residence permit in advance and send it to you by post. If your residence permit has expired and you have not yet received a new residence permit, please send a copy of your old residence permit to the immigration office by e-mail at: 32.abh-asyl@stadt-frankfurt.de.

In this case, you do not have to go to the immigration office!

My permit for tolerance stay (Duldung) expires soon. What can I do?

The Immigration Office will extend the permit for your tolerance stay in advance and send it to you by post. You will also receive a new appointment for the next interview before this extended tolerance period ends. If your permit has already expired and you have yet received a new permit, you can send a copy of your old permit to the immigration office at: abh-431@stadt-frankfurt.de (family name A-J), abh-432@stadt-frankfurt.de (family name K-Z).

In this case, you do not have to go to the immigration office!

How can I contact the immigration office at the moment?

Currently, you can only contact the immigration office via e-mail auslaenderbehoerde@stadt-frankfurt.de or via the hotline numbers: 069 / 212-42485. With this hotline, you can reach us from Monday to Thursday Mo – Thu from 8:00 to 16:00 and on Friday from 8:00 to 12:00.
